Rheem RTE 13 Electric Tankless Water Heater, 4 GPM

Rheem RTE 13 Electric Tankless Water Heater, 4 GPM

Electric water heaters were likely the first to be conceived and used. As a system it's very primitive, and yet there has become very little advancement with its design since it is inception. An electric water heater is nothing but a huge tank of water that features a coil that is located inside. This coil is connected to your current supply so that when you turn it on, the coil gets heated and thus heats the water.
Obviously the heater should be insulated, and for two reasons. One is that as soon as electricity is passed through the coil it also passes throughout the water, which means that unless the not in the tank is insulated everyone who touches it will receive a shock. The second is common sense, if you don't insulate it heat will dissipate quickly which means that the heater has to get on longer. Result; higher power bills.

Customer Reviews

I expected a unit of this size to put out hotter water when flowing to a single sink. It's useable but not as good as others I've used. I'd hate to think of what the lower wattage models would do.
It also has the annoying habit of occasionally switching on for a few seconds even when not in use, there's no reason for this to keep the few ounces of water it keeps inside already warmed up.

Very easy to install; just make sure to hire a good electrician. In Montreal, this type of device is not known, and most people are ignorant about it and its requirement (lots of amps). I installed it with 40 amps breaker and cable 6 and it works well. Plenty hot water even in cold climate!
